Joint Apprenticeship Training Program
Apprenticeship is both an ancient tradition and a highly-effective modern training method, particularly for those choosing to work in the exciting  and increasingly technical construction industry.

Individuals who enter our United Association five-year apprenticeship program, are part of a select group of men and women motivated to learn a complex and challenging trade.

Applicants are evaluated on the same fair basis, without regard to race, sex, national origin or religious affiliation.

Apprentices learn through both classroom and on-the-job training. The five-year apprenticeship period is divided into one-year segments, each of which includes 1,700 to 2,000 hours of on-the-job training and a minimum of 216 hours of related classroom instruction.

Apprentices receive a strong general education background in the trade, with core courses in basics such as mathematics, drawing and so on. At a certain point, apprentices can choose a specific path to follow, to become trained as a journeyman plumber, pipefitter, welder, refrigeration or service technician.

Apprenticeship is not an easy time: Apprentices must work the same hours as journeymen plus attend night classes. Yet, this can be a highly rewarding career path for an individual who is motivated to learn the piping trade and become an active member of a proud and noble trade union.

For more specific information regarding the apprentice training, contact Jim Schwinkendorf,  executive director of MCAFW.
Advantages of Membership in Mechanical Contractors Associations - Local, State & National
Local - They say there is safety in numbers.  More people or companies are able to accomplish what one company cannot.  Sharing
of  concerns and discussion of local issues and their ultimate resolution is the primary reason many union-affiliated businesses come
together  as one voice.
State - The State-wide organization bridges the gap between the smaller local association and the larger national one.  All the same
advantages are offered but on a more personal level:
The latest in educational and training materials are available to enhance the work environment of member companies,
Partnership and communication with similar companies throughout the State dealing with similar issues,
Committees that follow action in the State legislature of issues of interest to the plumbing and pipefitting industry, and
The annual meeting of all State members to discuss problems and successes, and to further the industry.
National - Member companies come to MCAA for programs and services that help them work safer, more efficiently, more
